How sales tax is applied
The one toggle, the job-location rate lookup, and the audit line on every invoice.
Sales tax on Ten Four is one switch: Show sales tax on invoice, in Settings → Services. Off means no tax is added. On means the rate is looked up automatically for every invoice — you never maintain a rate table.
Where the rate comes from
The rate is looked up for the job's service location — where the work happened, not where the bill goes. Taxable line items get the local combined rate; the rate used is snapshotted on the invoice so it never changes after the fact.
The audit line
Every invoice carries a plain-English tax note — for example "Sales tax on — 7.38% for MN 56308" or "Sales tax is off for this account — none applied" — so you (and your accountant) can always see whether tax was applied and how the amount was derived.
Note: If a rate lookup ever fails, the invoice records $0 tax with a visible warning instead of guessing a rate — you'll see it during review before anything sends.
